U-God – “The Keynote Speaker” review

Released 4 years after his decent 3rd full-length solo album Dopium, U-God of the almighty Wu-Tang Clan is hitting us with his best album since his solo debut just 14 years back. The Styles P featured “Fame” is self explanatory & the beat on here is soulful as Hell. The track “Room Keep Spinning” sees the Clan’s de facto leader RZA producing on a U-God album for the first time since his debut & it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Throughout the track, Golden Arms is talking about partying & the acoustic guitar throughout is pretty nice. The track “Get Mine” has a bluesy vibe to it from RZA’s production to U-God’s singing throughout the whole track. The track “Mt. Everest” has a sinister beat as well as hard verses from him as well as fellow Wu member Inspectah Deck & former Slum Village member eLZhi. The production on the Kool Keith featured “Journey” sounds like an old school Atari game, but the verses are ambitious & it’s sonically enjoyable. A lot of people call U-God the weakest member of the Wu, but this album (along with his solo debut) is evidence that he does have talent

Score: 3.5/5
