Tech N9ne – “The Gates Mixed Plate” review

Just 4 months after his 1st EP The Lost of K.O.D. (King Of Darkness) as well as a year after his last 2 albums Sickology 101: The Study of Being Sick & K.O.D. (King Of Darkness), Strange Music founder Tech N9ne is continuing his hot streak of projects with his 3rd Collabos album but his 10th album overall. The album’s opening song “O.G. (Ollie Gates)” has a party inducing beat from 7 & it’s a tribute to Ollie Gates, who owns Tech’s favorite restaurant Gates Bar-B-Q. The song “Gamer” with Kutt Calhoun sees the 2 hooking up with women but acting as if it’s all a video game & the beat fits the concept like a glove. The cleverly titled “Harvey Dent” is about the dark side of Tech as well as the partying side of Tech & the beat is just thunderous as Hell. The song “Pu Wah Wah” by the 816 Boyz has a solid beat, but the rhymes are just awful. I know they’ve made songs similar to this before, but come on. The song “K.C. Tea” is an ode to the drink with the same name & once again, 7’s production will make you wanna start throwing it down in the club. As much as I respect the Hell outta Tech, I personally consider this to be the worst Collabos album. The production’s ok & Tech isn’t really bad on here, but a lot of the features on here didn’t really capture my attention that much

Score: 2.5/5
