Kendrick Lamar – “untitled unmastered.” review

This is easily…the best release I’ve listened to this year (so far). Most of the 8 tracks on here (all of which are untitled) were recorded before Kendrick’s most recent album/magnum opus To Pimp a Butterfly (which is undeniably the best album of this current decade) came out, with track 7 (which was produced by Swizz Beatz & Alicia Keys’ 5 year old son Egypt) being recorded from 2014 to earlier this year. Similar to TPaB, the production on this EP is jazzy & the lyrics are socially relevant (this is evident on tracks 2 & 5). However, production on the 8th track (which happens to be the EP’s closing track) sounds like something DáM-FunK produced. Overall, this isn’t as good as good kid, m.A.A.D. city or To Pimp a Butterfly but it really is something worth checking out

Score: 4.5/5
