Kanye West – “The Life of Pablo” review

As we all know, Kanye’s 7th album T.L.o.P. (The Life of Pablo) has finally been released after a series of delays & it was definitely worth it. The lyrics are reflective & the production is diverse. On the track Famous, Kanye gets braggadocio over a beat that I can only imagine hearing in a football locker room before a big game. On the track Feedback, he talks about his success in a way he could only do so. On the track I Love Kanye, he spits a cappella about what we all think about; us missing The College Dropout era Kanye. On the tracks Real Friends and 30 Hours, Kanye gets introspective over beats that sounds like it was leftover from the Late Registration sessions (Real Friends) and the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (30 Hours) sessions respectively. The track No More Parties in L.A. (which was actually recorded during the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy sessions) has Kanye & the king Kendrick Lamar talking about fake celebrity lifestyles over a beat from the one & only Madlib. However, the album does have it’s flaws. On the tracks Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2 & Low Lights, Kanye’s verses aren’t bad but it’s just the verses from Desiigner (a Future knock-off who just signed to GOOD Music recently) that kills it for me. And Facts (that God awful song Kanye put out on New Year’s Eve) appears as the 2nd to last track with an all new beat & yet it STILL sounds lazy & uninspiring. Despite these small flaws, I’d say that this was a MAJOR improvement over Yeezus but it’s not as good as The College Dropout or My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Score: 3.5/5
