Drake – “VIEWS” reVIEW

Since about 2009, Drake has become a very well known artist. He’s made great records like So Far Gone, Thank Me Later & Take Care. However, he has become a polarizing figure in music (especially with the hip hop community) within the past 3 years. From stealing lines from Rappin’ 4-Tay’s Playaz Club for his verse on Who Do You Love? by YG to making corny projects like Nothing Was the Same & If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late as well as What a Time to Be Alive (that boring collab mixtape with Future). But with this new album here, the production is average but the songwriting is so lazy. Don’t believe me? On the track 9, he spits (effortlessly) “I turn the 6 upside down, it’s a 9 now” over a spacey synth/trap drum beat. That is hands down the worst line I’ve heard in a hip hop song all year. On Pop Style, he sounds like he’s struggling with what to say over a techno inspired beat. The line “Got so many chains, they call me Chaining Tatum” shows that the struggle is indeed real. Kanye’s verse on here is actually tolerable, though. Kanye actually co-produces the track U With Me?. The beat’s ok, but the cheesy lines like “You toying with it like a Happy Meal” kills the vibe for me. Overall, this is hands down the worst project Drake has ever put out. Maybe he’ll reconcile with Quinten Miller in the near future so he can try to make something good again but for now, this just goes to show that this is indeed the end of the road for him
