U-God – “Dopium” review

4 years have passed since U-God of the almighty Wu-Tang Clan dropped his God awful sophomore effort Mr. Xcitement but now here he his with his 3rd full-length solo album. And while it is better than his last effort, there are a few things holding this album back. The first one being that I feel like there are an excessive amount of guest appearances. I mean tracks like “God is Love”, “Coke” & “Wu-Tang” are all dope, but there are only 3 tracks where Golden Arms is just rhyming by himself. One of them being the Large Professor produced closer “New Classic”, which is actually my favorite track off the whole album. The second one being that is that I feel like it’s too short. We’re only getting 11 new tracks as well as 3 pointless remixes of previous tracks at the very end & that’s my 3rd issue with this album. Remixed tracks can be cool, but some just don’t work & the 3 at the very end of the album are examples of just that. Overall, even though I like a small handful of tracks, it’s just a decent album

Score: 2.5/5
