Ol’ Dirty Bastard – “Nigga Please” review

After releasing his solo debut Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version to critical acclaim just 4 years before, the Ol’ Dirty Bastard of the almighty Wu-Tang Clan is finally back with his sophomore effort. The album’s opener “Recognize” starts off with a catchy beat from The Neptunes & a spoken word intro from legendary comedian Chris Rock, but then Dirt & the Zu Keeper spit rhymes about being at a party. The track “Cold Blooded” is a cover of the classic Rick James track with the same name & his singing on here is absolutely hilarious from start to finish. The track “Got Your Money” sees Dirt spitting some pimp shit over a funky bassline & a catchy hook from Kelis. The title track is the first of 4 tracks on the entire album to have production input from the Clan’s de facto leader RZA (who primarily produced Dirt’s solo debut just 4 years back) & it starts off with some dope boom bap drums & some ruckus inducing horns, but then the horns transition to a mellow guitar loop when Dirt starts spitting about how the dog can’t be fucked with. The track “I Want Pussy” has a funky beat & Dirt’s basically expressing his desire to have free sex. The True Master produced “All in Together Now” has a beat with a dope ass Charles Wright sample & Dirt’s just spitting some 5%er shit. The hidden track “Cracker Jack” has a nice vocal sample throughout & Dirt’s just vulgar sex bars are just hilariously entertaining. Unfortunately this would be Dirt’s final album to be released in his lifetime & while it’s not a classic like his debut, this is still a solid effort. Dirt’s outrageousness is entertaining as always & while the production isn’t as amazing as it was on Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version, it’s still solid.

Score: 3.5/5
